Brian Tierney holds a PhD in Somatic Psychology and is an international trainer of somatic practitioners in the tradition of Craniosacral Therapy— a gentle hands-on modality that works directly with the physiology of the nervous system to build resilience, release trauma, and alleviate chronic pain. His doctoral project wove together somatics from a Craniosacral perspective, the anthropology of ritual, mythological studies, and structural approaches to the human psyche including psychobiological theories of human spirituality.
Brian has been an integrative healing arts practitioner since 1999 and has a multiplicity of experiences including working with cancer patients in New Zealand, stewarding rites of passage rituals for men and boys, and providing drama therapy in group settings. His thousands of hours of training in the healing arts and sciences include certificates in the Rolf Method of Structural Integration, Leadership and Social Transformation, Advanced Breathing Facilitation, Yoga Teaching, Hypnotherapy, Advanced Breathing Techniques, Transformational Dance, and Drama Therapy.
Brian is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in hands-on somatic approaches to trauma resolution including EMDR and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. He is an eclectic psychotherapist who uses a combination of talk therapy and education with individuals, families, couples, children, and groups.
He is also a seasoned dancer with over 15 years of experience in modalities such as Contact Improvisation, Capoeira, and Authentic Movement.
